Detailed description of Twin Lakes Golf Course, CLOSED 2017

Twin Lakes Golf Course is a public 18-hole golf course located in Canton, Texas.

Twin Lakes first opened for play in 1999. The course was designed by Robert Von Hagge. With rolling tree lined fairways, TifEagle Bermuda greens and two sparkling lakes, Twin Lakes is a hidden gem in East Texas.

Course challenges include 51 bunkers and six total water carries. You can ratchet the challenge up and down depending on your tee box selection. From the longest tees, this par 72 course plays to 7,171 yards, other boxes are set at 6,648 yards, 5,739 yards and the forward tees play to 4,964 yards.

The course features the latest EZ-Go carts with ProLink onboard GPS systems.

Closed July 2017 __________

Twin Lakes closed at the end of July 2017. The course was noted for the quality of the layout and the relatively inexpensive green fees. The owner, South African native and tree farmer Deon Dekkers, decided to put the land to other uses after tornadoes ravaged part of the course earlier in the year.

I played this course this past weekend. Beautiful course nestled back in the texas country. Surrounded by a 1000 acre tree farm it feels way more secluded than any other good course in the area. The course is not too difficult with plenty of sand traps and about 9-10 water hazards that the 2 lakes on the course come into play. Overall the green were quick and well kept, and the fairways were tight and well taken care of. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a diamond in the rough for a bargain price. Any course this good closer to Dallas you would pay $100 dollars a round.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Ranks with the best in this price level, Best course in the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

Playing golf at Twin Lakes was a great experience. It was a difficult course especially with the wind blowing 20-30 mph the day we played. The fairways and greens were not quite up to the condition I had heard they were in the past. The fairways had decent grass but there were many tight lies where the grass was thin and hardpan was just beneath the surface. The greens were bermuda with tiny mowing lines in them that made putting inconsistent and difficult given the undulation and grain. However, for the price ($40 with a cart & an excellent GPS system showing the exact pin location, distance from the front and side of the green) it was a great experience. I would highly recommend it and hope to go out there a couple of times per year from now on. The staff and facilities were excellent. If you live in the area, this facility would provide some of the best golf entertainment. I also must mention the water driving range challenge behind the clubhouse. For a small price you can hit a bag of balls into the lake and if you get it in about a 10 by 10 yard square 92 yards away you can win a prize. It's a great concept.

Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

Beautiful course. A bit of a drive from Dallas, but worth it for a course that's easy to get on and doesn't cost a lot.

Enjoyable course. Needs to be played once for familiarization. Traps are strategically placed however the sand is questionable. Well manicured.

For real duffers, like me, there's a lot of water to hit over and a couple of blind drives. Still, a nice course.

My wife had played this and wanted to take me. Even though the grass was dormant I enjoyed the day and the course. I really want to play when everything is green and in bloom. I would recommend this course to my friends. They are all single digit handicappers. I know they would enjoy the challange.

Great Course...I've been playing this course for the past 5 years and it has matured into a hidden gem in East Texas. You will need to bring your "A" Game to this course - Large Fairways and Large Greens. If you are not accurate on your approach shot you could be in for a 50 Ft putt. Greens putt true and are some of the best I've played on this year. You must see this course when the flowers are in bloom...it' is a site to see!!
